Dissolved Air Flotation

Overview

The Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system is an efficient solid-liquid separation technology designed to remove suspended solids (SS), oils, grease, and other floatable contaminants from industrial wastewater.

By releasing microscopic air bubbles into the wastewater, contaminants attach to the bubbles and float to the surface, where they are removed by a skimming mechanism. DAF systems are widely used as primary treatment, pretreatment, or polishing treatment in industrial wastewater facilities.

Working Principle

The Dissolved Air Flotation process operates by dissolving air into water under pressure and then releasing it into a flotation tank under atmospheric conditions. When the pressure is reduced, millions of microbubbles are generated. These bubbles attach to suspended particles, oils, and grease, reducing their density and causing them to float to the water surface. The accumulated sludge layer is continuously removed by a skimmer system, while clarified water is discharged from the bottom of the unit for further treatment or reuse.

Key Benefits

High Removal Efficiency

Effectively removes suspended solids, fats, oils, grease (FOG), and other contaminants, helping facilities achieve discharge or reuse requirements.

Compact Footprint

Compared with conventional clarification systems, DAF units require less installation space and offer higher treatment efficiency.

Fast Start-Up

The system can quickly reach stable operating conditions with minimal startup time.

Flexible Process Design

Suitable for a wide range of industrial wastewater characteristics and treatment objectives.

Low Operating Cost

Optimized air dissolution and sludge removal systems help reduce operational expenses.

Reliable Performance

Maintains stable treatment performance even under fluctuating hydraulic and pollutant loads.
